SHERIDAN CARE TIPS
Tip #1: To keep your Sheridan product in optimum condition, always follow the care instructions as set out on the care label sewn onto the product.
SHERIDAN CARE TIPS - 100% Cotton Sheets
Cotton is a natural fibre that will wear over time. Following our care recommendations will ensure that your Sheridan cotton sheets will perform at their best and be comfortable for longer.
PRODUCTS TO AVOID
Chlorine bleach
Never use chlorine bleach on coloured sheets, as it will cause permanent stains. Chlorine bleach is often used on white sheets, but over time it destroys the fibres causing holes.
Peroxide
If your sheets or pillowcases come into contact with peroxide, the effect is similar fibre damage to bleaching, which may not become apparent until after they are washed. You will often see benzoyl peroxide in the ingredient list of products such as facial cleansers, skin treatments, and hair colours. Rinse your hands, face, hair or skin thoroughly before touching your sheets after use of these products.
Self-tanners
Be aware that products such as tanning lotions and creams, tinted sunscreens and spray-on tans can create permanent stains if transferred from your skin to your sheets or pillowcases.
USAGE AND STORAGE GUIDELINES
Keep three sheet sets per bed, ideally, to maximise the lifespan of your sheets – a set on the bed, a set in the wash, and a set in the cupboard.
Rotate your fitted sheet each time you make the bed with fresh bedlinen, so that the same section does not always end up at the top or bottom of the bed. This prevents unnecessary repetition of wear over time in the same section of the sheet, such as the friction created by your feet.
Store your sheets in a cool, dry closed space, allowing enough room for air circulation.
Line shelves made unfinished wood as it can eventually stain your bedlinen.
Washing guidelines
Choose a warm normal wash cycle. Cotton sheets can withstand variable temperatures but we recommend warm water. Cold water does not rinse out detergent residue as effectively as warm water (above 40°C). Over time, this residue will cause accelerated wear of the cotton fibre.
Separate dark colours from light colours. It is normal for darker-coloured sheets to shed some excess dye in the first few washes.
Use mild detergents such as those with a eucalyptus base, to protect the fibres, promote superior colour retention and extend the life of your Sheridan sheets.
Don't overload your washing machine. Ensure that the sheets can move freely around in the machine and that there is sufficient water for this to happen.
Use detergents containing optical brighteners (OBAs) to keep whites looking bright.
Use oxygen bleach, often referred to as colour-safe bleach, for colours. OBAs tend to make colours appear less vibrant and over time will weaken the cotton fibre.
Dissolve your chosen washing agent fully in the washing machine water before adding sheets. Use about half of the amount recommended. Never add detergents directly onto sheets as patches of uneven colour can occur.
Remove sheets from the washing machine directly after the final spin cycle to minimise creasing. For best results, shake them before line drying, and fold sheets immediately after removal from the line.
Drying guidelines
Line dry your sheets to keep them fresh and virtually wrinkle-free. Be sure to dry darker colours out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, but conversely, drying white sheets in direct sunlight can have the same effect as bleaching or using an optical brightener.
Tumble dry on a warm setting, however be sure to remove and fold sheets for storage promptly after drying to minimise creasing. Cotton is a natural, absorbent fibre, and will take a long time to dry on a cool dryer setting. If you over-dry or use a dryer setting that’s too hot, your sheets will have a harsh feel on the skin, deep-set creases and if often repeated, a shorter lifespan.
Load your dryer with care. Over loading so that the sheets cannot move easily in the dryer will cause creasing, take longer and use more electricity.
Choose a hot steam setting when ironing 100% cotton sheets. Cotton tends to wrinkle, especially when new. With use, your cotton sheets will get softer and wrinkle less.

SHERIDAN CARE TIPS - Bed Linen
Cotton can withstand variable temperatures but in most cases we recommend a 40°C normal wash, a warm tumble dry setting, and a hot steam iron. To protect the fibres and for superior colour retention, use mild detergents such as those with a eucalyptus base. Detergents containing OBAs keep whites looking bright. For colours, we recommend oxygen bleach, often referred to as colour-safe bleach.
Linen is sometimes dry clean only, so check the label. We recommend a 30°C gentle wash, eucalyptus-based detergent, and line drying – whites in the sun to keep them looking bright, and colours out of direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry. Unless treated for crease-resistance, linen usually requires ironing.
Silk is delicate and can lose its sheen if treated harshly when laundering. For best results, dry clean only. The next best methods are to hand wash, or machine wash on the gentlest cycle, in cold water. Turn inside out before washing. Only use mild detergents such as a wool mix or pure soap flakes. Bleach should never be used on silk. Hang on the line to dry. Do not tumble dry. For long-term storage, silk should be sealed against light, air and insects.
Polyester can usually be machine washed, tumble-dried, and dry-cleaned. In most cases we recommend a 40°C normal wash, a warm tumble dry setting, and a moderately warm iron. To reduce the need for ironing, remove promptly from the tumble dryer and fold for storage.

SHERIDAN CARE TIPS - Flannelette
Flannelette is created with loosely spun yarn, and the fabric is brushed on each side, making it beautifully soft to the touch. For long enjoyment of this luxurious product, we recommend you take note of these tips:
Shrinkage
Be aware that 100% cotton fabric will always shrink when washed. We have cut your sheets larger to allow for this inherent shrinkage.
Excess fibre
If you hang your flannelette sheets on the line, give them a gentle flick to remove the excess fibre, a natural occurrence in flannelette fabric.
If tumble drying, never use a hot setting, as this can burn the excess fibre and create excessive linting.
Longevity
We recommend a gentle machine wash using a mild detergent.
Do not use detergents containing bleach, as this will cause colours to fade and reduce the longevity of your flannelette sheets.
Darker colours
Remove sheets from the washing machine promptly. Although your flannelette sheets are colourfast, darker colours may bleed if left wet or damp for long periods.

SHERIDAN CARE TIPS - Towels
Some common cleaning products can reduce their lifespan, or cause irreparable damage.
PRODUCTS TO AVOID
If a towel is rested on a surface cleaned with chlorine bleach, it will absorb the bleach, resulting in a permanent stain. Never use chlorine bleach on coloured towels. Chlorine bleach is often used on white towels, but over time it destroys the fibres causing holes.
If a towel comes into contact with peroxide, the effect is similar fibre damage to bleaching, which may not become apparent until after it is washed. You will often see benzoyl peroxide in the ingredient list of products such as facial cleansers, skin treatments, and hair colours. Rinse your hands, face, hair or skin thoroughly after use of these products, and before using your towel.
To minimise the effect of contact with chlorine bleach or peroxide, immediately rinse the affected area of the towel thoroughly with cold water, before washing the entire towel as normal.
Avoid using silicone-based fabric softeners and conditioners, as they repel water and will reduce the absorbency of your towels, and weaken the fabric over time. For coloured towels, avoid detergents that contain optical brighteners (OBAs), which tend to make colours appear less vibrant.
RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS
To protect the fibres and for superior colour retention, use mild detergents such as those with a eucalyptus base. We also recommend oxygen bleach, sometimes referred to as colour-safe bleach. For white towels only, detergents containing OBAs keep whites looking bright.
Your towels are an investment in the comfort of your household, and with proper care, will retain their original colour, softness and absorbency for years.
Washing guidelines
Attend to stains promptly before they set, using oxygen-based stain removers, soakers
or mild detergent.
Separate light towels from dark. It is normal in the first wash for small amounts of excess dye to be shed from darker towels.
Dissolve your chosen washing agent fully before adding towels. Use the amount recommended.
Arrange the towels so the load is balanced and the machine is not overcrowded.
Deep cleanse to remove oils and kill any bacteria with a warm to hot washing cycle
(40°-60°C) occasionally.
Don’t dry clean.
Drying guidelines
Remove towels promptly from the washing machine to prevent mildew.
Shake towels before and after drying to fluff up the fibres for softness and absorbency.
Choose a warm or medium tumble dryer setting. The hottest setting will make towels feel harsh.
Save electricity by air-drying towels, out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Finish off by tumble-drying for a few minutes while still slightly damp for maximum softness.
Don’t iron your towels – it won’t harm them but it will flatten the pile.
